When Kenny Dalglish signed Stewart Downing the summer after Carroll and Suarez arrived, it was widely expected that the England winger would be the man to provide the ammunition for Carroll to thrive from.
Dalglish's attempt to play a traditional shape largely failed. The then-Liverpool boss ousted the previously in-form duo of Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt in order to accommodate another new signing, but one who was far from comfortable as a natural winger: Jordan Henderson. Liverpool fans were often found shaking their heads in bafflement as Dalglish would substitute Carroll and Downing for each other, rarely lining the two up in the same side.
Following Dalglish's departure and Brendan Rodgers' appointment in summer , media and fans alike quickly began to list those players who would benefit from such changes, and those who would not. Carroll was immediately consigned to the latter list, and that was how it proved.
Rodgers allowed the 6'2" forward to leave on loan, something the Northern Irishman was already considering 10 days into his spell at Anfield, as per BBC Sport. Whether you believe Carroll should have been "given a chance" under Rodgers is personal opinion, but there is a strong argument that the manager was vindicated by his ruthlessness, especially given the development of his Liverpool side in the 20 months since. Quite simply, Carroll's style would never have suited a Rodgers side.
Mucklow has in the past few weeks hinted that her wedding with Carroll is imminent. It didn't happen and it didn't happen for many reasons… to be honest, it was really hard for me, not playing when I thought I could have made a difference. Carroll scored just once in 43 appearances during his second stint with Newcastle and appeared 18 times in the Premier League last season. The ex-England international, who has nine caps to his name and who currently lives with his family in Essex, is keen to be able to commute to his next club and has had offers on the table.
Last September, Carroll shared a snap of his five children , showing his eldest daughter Emilie Rose, 11, cradling the newborn alongside his other kids. He has no intention of retiring yet and is willing to commit to a team which is convenient for his family, with Reading an option in the summer. Carroll shared a family portrait last September just hours after the birth of his fifth child. Despite falling out of favour under Bruce, Carroll insists he is desperate to find a new club.
The forward was the most expensive British footballer when he moved to Liverpool in I want to play in front of my family and win games. My drive and my passion hasn't faded away in the slightest. Sportsmail revealed that cracks are widening at Carroll's former club Newcastle with Graeme Jones and Dwight Gayle clashing, Steve Bruce blasting Isaac Hayden for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal last weekend and players angered with the training schedule to suit the manager as well as dismay at team meeting.
He also came off the bench 19 times. For a player who has international ambitions, he needs to be in the original 11 more often. Even when Carroll performed poorly, Kenny Dalglish always remained faithful in the Englishman's ability. A handful of excellent displays towards the end of the season saw Carroll called up to his country's Euro squad where he scored a vital goal against Sweden. The Premier League season is only two games old. Even so, Carroll has managed a disappointing total of 20 minutes on the pitch.
While he was named in Liverpool's Europa League squad, he didn't enter the fray once. At West Ham, Carroll is guaranteed time to make an impression.
His recent form is an indication he is continuing to improve. After all the stick he has received, Carroll deserves his chance to shine. Despite his recent improvement, most of Carroll's time at Liverpool has been spent under performing. In 19 appearances for Newcastle during the Premier League season, he scored 11 goals. Signing for such a club is undoubtedly the pinnacle of most careers. Liverpool's reputation has been built on years of success, numerous trophy wins, and the production of world-class talents such as Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.
Anfield is a relentlessly hostile stadium for any opposition. The problem is, this hostility can often get to the home side. The year-old will instead begin the search for a new club, and is said to be open to the possibility of coaching. Or indeed, will belatedly Andy Carroll be signed yet again and be paraded as a new signing once more by Newcastle United?
It is all exciting stuff and still the club refuse to say whether Andy Carroll has actually left or not. It is almost as though nothing is actually happening at the club and nobody cares…certainly not anybody in any level of relative responsibility such as Bruce or Charnley.
